A restaurant website designed to fill tables from a phone screen

Cinder & Salt Kitchen is an example website design for a restaurant in Nashville, TN. It opens on a full-width photo of a candlelit communal table with the kitchen behind it, a serif headline and 2 actions: see the menu or plan a visit. The menu follows as 2 switchable sections, then a short story about the kitchen, and the page ends on a visit block with the location, a phone link and a table request button.

Design decisions

  1. The photo sells the evening before the food

Diners choose a restaurant by how the room feels. The first screen is a single photograph of people at a long table with the fire behind them, and the headline and 2 buttons stay small over it.

  2. The menu is on the page, not in a PDF

Visitors on phones leave when a menu opens as a download. 2 tabs, labeled from the fire and at the table, switch the dishes in place, with the price aligned on the right of each line.

  3. Table requests go by email or phone

A small kitchen may take requests by email or phone rather than through a reservation platform. The visit block gives both, and the request button sits beside the phone link so the visitor picks the one they prefer.

  4. Mobile first because that is where diners decide

Restaurant visits often begin on a phone in a car or a group chat. The header collapses to a menu with the table request inside it, type stays large, and nothing on the page needs a hover.

What every restaurant website needs

  • The menu on the page as text, with prices, not as a PDF or an image
  • Hours, address and a map link near the top on a phone
  • A way to reserve or request a table, and a phone number beside it
  • Photos of the room and 3 or 4 dishes, shot in your light
  • Notes on dietary options and how to ask about allergens
  • Parking, private dining and large-party details if you offer them
  • $0 to build
  • First version within 48 hours of your brief
  • $15 a month for hosting, only after you approve the preview and go live
  • Month to month, no contract

When you approve the preview, you set up your SMBcrm account and card for the $15 hosting plan. That is the only time we ask for payment details.

Restaurant website questions

What should a restaurant website include?

A restaurant website should put the menu on the page as text with prices, show hours, address and a map link near the top, offer a way to reserve or request a table with a phone number beside it, and include photos of the room and the food. Dietary notes and parking details answer the questions that otherwise fill your voicemail.

Does a restaurant website need online reservations?

Only if you take reservations. If you use a platform, link its Book button from the header and the visit section. If you seat walk-ins or take requests by phone, say so plainly and make the phone number tappable, which serves the diner better than a widget that is never checked.

How much does a restaurant website like this cost with FreeWebGuy?

FreeWebGuy builds your restaurant website for $0. Hosting is $15 a month and starts only after you approve the private preview and go live. Month to month, no contract. The full price breakdown lists what is included and what costs extra.

How fast can I get a restaurant website like this?

First version within 48 hours of your brief. You review a private preview and ask for changes before you pay. Bigger sites, or briefs missing key details, take a few days more. See how it works for the steps.

Is this a template?

No. It is one design direction for restaurant websites. Your site is built from your brief: your name, services, service area and look. You can name this example as the look you want, or ask for something different.
