Are Hoot Host and FreeWebGuy the same offer?
On price, yes: Hoot Host and FreeWebGuy both design and build the site for $0 and both charge $15 a month for hosting once it is live. There is no hidden fee on either side of those headline numbers.
The differences are in everything around the price. Hoot Host quotes 2 to 3 weeks on average and caps the plan at 5 pages with 1 design option. FreeWebGuy sends a first version within 48 hours of your brief and sets the scope from the brief itself. Hoot bundles a CRM; FreeWebGuy puts a Book button on the site and leaves the CRM to an optional SMBcrm plan. Both are hosted platforms you cannot export as a file; FreeWebGuy's terms add that we can help you gather your content when you go, and Hoot's page describes no such step.
How long does Hoot Host take to build a website?
Hoot Host says it completes most websites in 2 to 3 weeks and that some projects may take up to 30 business days. Its homepage lists '2–3 wks' as the average build time. For a business that already has a site and is replacing it, three weeks is manageable; for one that has nothing and is losing calls, it is a long wait.
FreeWebGuy sends the first version within 48 hours of your brief. Bigger sites, or briefs missing key details, take a few days more. The brief itself takes about 3 minutes. We use AI to build fast, and a person checks every first version before you see it, so the speed does not come from skipping the check.
After the first version, both services depend on you: reviewing, asking for changes, approving. On FreeWebGuy that review starts two days in rather than three weeks in, and nothing is charged until you approve.
How many pages do you get for $0?
Hoot Host's plan covers up to 5 basic content pages, a blog and basic functionality, with 1 design option per site. That fits a lot of local businesses: home, services, about, gallery, contact. It does not fit a business with eight service lines or two locations, and Hoot's page points those customers toward paid work at hourly rates and add-on packages, without listing the amounts.
FreeWebGuy does not state a page cap. The scope comes from your brief: the pages a business like yours needs to turn a visitor into a call or a booking. Bigger sites, or briefs missing key details, take a few days more, and a large build, such as a big catalog, is quoted and approved before any work starts. We also review every brief and can decline a project that does not fit.
Reasonable revisions before launch are included on FreeWebGuy; we revise the preview with you until it matches your brief. If you have no photos or logo yet, say so, and we work with what you have.
Can you move a Hoot Host website?
No. Hoot Host's FAQ says the design and code cannot be exported or moved off its platform, and that cancelling hosting takes the site offline. That is a normal term for a $0 build paid for by hosting, and FreeWebGuy's term is similar: your site runs on SMBcrm hosting, the design and platform are licensed to you while the $15 plan is active, and the site goes offline if you cancel.
The difference is what we do on the way out. Your domain, logo, photos and text stay yours. Ask us and we can help you gather them, and SMBcrm keeps account data for about 30 days after a plan ends. Hoot's page describes no such step. On a $15 plan nobody is handing you a portable site, so the question to ask either of us is what you leave with, and the answer here is your content.
What about the CRM?
Hoot Host includes its HootBiz CRM, described on its page as an all-in-one CRM with pipeline, email and automations, inside the $15. If a CRM is on your list, that is a point in Hoot's favor.
FreeWebGuy keeps the $15 to the website. Sites that take appointments get a Book button that opens the scheduler you already use, or a request-a-time form that emails you each request. A built-in calendar with reminders, a CRM, email marketing and automation come with SMBcrm plans from $97 a month, and those plans are optional. If you already run your business on a scheduler or a CRM you like, we connect to it rather than replace it.
What do updates cost after launch?
Hoot Host lists content editing among its features and says some updates may incur an hourly rate, with affordable hourly rates and add-on packages mentioned in its FAQ. No dollar figure appears on the page, so budget for it as unknown.
On FreeWebGuy, your own edits in your site's AI builder are included, and the platform's 24/7 chat support helps when you get stuck. Email hello@freewebguy.com about your design and we reply within one business day. New pages, a redesign or a large catalog after launch are quoted and approved before any work starts. The pricing page lists everything that costs extra.
Who is behind each one?
Hoot Host's site says more than 2,000 small businesses have joined it; we repeat that as Hoot's own figure. Its page describes a team that designs and builds the sites.
FreeWebGuy is a brand of Leads 365 LLC in Gilbert, Arizona. Leads 365 LLC also operates SMBcrm, the platform that hosts and bills your site, which is why the $15 can be $15. The founder is Josh Wendt, and the team behind FreeWebGuy, from Section 5 Media, Triaza, SMBcrm and The SMB Hub, has built more than 1,000 websites. The facts page has the address and the rest.
The website examples show the kind of site we build for $0. Look at a few before you send a brief, so you know what the first version will look like.
