How much does a Wix website cost per year?
A Wix website costs $204 a year on the Light plan, $348 on Core, $468 on Business and $1,908 on Business Elite, and Wix bills each amount up front for the full year. The plans page says so in its footnote: 'Displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase.'
The 50% promotion Wix was showing on October 14, 2026 applies to Core, Business and Business Elite and, in Wix's words, is only valid for the initial term. Core at $14.50 a month becomes $29 a month when the first year ends, so a Core site held for three years costs $870, not $522.
Two costs sit outside those figures. A new domain is covered for the first year by a voucher that comes with most yearly Premium plans on a first purchase, then renews at the price Wix charges for domains. Business email and paid apps from the App Market are billed on top of the plan. The guide to what a Wix website costs over three years adds those lines up plan by plan.
FreeWebGuy charges $0 to build the site and $15 a month for hosting once you approve the preview, so the first year is $180 plus a domain if you need one. There is no promotional rate to expire. The full list of what the $15 covers is on the pricing page.
Is Wix free?
Wix is free as long as you accept a wixsite.com address and Wix ads on your pages. The free plan includes the editor, the templates, 500 MB of storage and 1 GB of bandwidth, and Wix's help center is direct about the limit: 'connecting a custom domain requires upgrading to a plan.'
For a business that prints a web address on a truck, a card or a Google Business Profile, that one limit settles the question. A customer who types yourbusiness.com needs a paid plan behind it, which puts the real starting price at $204 for the year.
FreeWebGuy's free part is the build. We design and write the site, you look over a private preview, and the $15 a month starts only if you approve it. Your domain is connected on that plan, in your name, with nothing to upgrade.
Who does the work on each?
On Wix, you do. You pick a template, write every heading and paragraph, find and crop the photos, check the mobile layout, fill in page titles and descriptions, connect the domain and keep all of it current. The editor is good at this, and owners who enjoy it end up with a site that looks exactly the way they pictured it.
On FreeWebGuy, we do. The brief takes about 3 minutes, and the first version arrives within 48 hours of it. Bigger sites, or briefs missing key details, take a few days more. We use AI to build fast, and a person checks every first version before you see it. The steps are laid out on how it works.
Your own hours are the cost neither pricing page shows. If you want a number for them, the website cost calculator lets you enter what an hour of your time is worth and adds it to the DIY total. It sets no default, because only you know that figure.
Can you move a Wix site to another host?
No. Wix's help center says a site 'needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers' and that its architecture 'does not support external hosting.' The same article adds that the content you build on Wix belongs to you, so you can copy your text, download your images and start again somewhere else.
FreeWebGuy is not portable either. Your site runs on SMBcrm hosting, and the design and platform are licensed to you while the $15 plan is active. If you cancel, the site goes offline. Your domain, logo, photos and text stay yours, and if you ask, we can help you gather them. SMBcrm keeps account data for about 30 days after a plan ends.
The practical difference is who did the work. Leaving Wix means rebuilding something you built. Leaving FreeWebGuy means taking your content to the next provider.
Is Wix good for a small business?
Wix is a good choice for a small business owner who wants control and has the hours to use it. In HTTP Archive's June 2026 Core Web Vitals field data, as reported by webhosting.today on August 12, 2026, 80.1% of Wix sites passed all three Core Web Vitals on mobile, the highest share among the large builders. Its App Market covers bookings, stores, forms and a long list of extras.
It is a weaker choice for an owner who will not open the editor again after the first month. A site nobody maintains drifts: old hours, a service you no longer offer, a photo from two trucks ago. Nothing in the $17 a month fixes that for you.
FreeWebGuy was built for that second owner. We ship the first version, you approve it, and afterward you make edits with the site's AI builder or get help from the platform's 24/7 chat support. Email hello@freewebguy.com about your design and we reply within one business day. The team behind FreeWebGuy has built 1,000+ websites.
What does each one cost after launch?
After launch, a Wix site costs the plan renewal each year, the domain renewal after the voucher year, and any apps or email you added, plus your time for every change. Wix's 14-day money-back guarantee applies to the initial upgrade, not to renewals.
After launch, a FreeWebGuy site costs $15 a month and the domain at the registrar. Reasonable revisions before launch are included, and your own edits in the AI builder afterward cost nothing extra. New pages, a redesign or a large catalog after launch are quoted and approved before any work starts. You can cancel the $15 plan any month in your SMBcrm account, and FreeWebGuy charges no cancellation fee.
