How much does a Wix website cost? Plans, renewals and add-ons
A Wix website costs $17 to $159 a month across four Premium plans, billed yearly, per wix.com/plans on October 14, 2026: Light $17, Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159. The 50% promotion on Core and above covers the first term only. Add the domain after year one, email and card fees. The free plan uses a wixsite.com address.
A Wix website costs more than the number on the plan card, because the card shows the first term of a yearly plan and leaves out the domain after year one, business email, card fees and your own hours. This guide prices all of it from Wix’s own pages, read on October 14, 2026, and sets the three-year total beside the other routes in what a small business website costs. For a feature-by-feature look at the two services, see FreeWebGuy versus Wix; this page is about the bill. The Squarespace cost guide runs the same numbers for Squarespace.
What are Wix’s plans and prices?
Wix sells four Premium plans: Light at $17 a month, Core at $29, Business at $39 and Business Elite at $159, all billed yearly and paid in full at purchase, per wix.com/plans on October 14, 2026. Core, Business and Business Elite were showing a 50% promotion that day, at $14.50, $19.50 and $79.50, which Wix’s footnote says is “only valid for the initial term”.
| Plan | Per month, billed yearly | First-term promotion | Storage | Takes payments | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | $17 | None | 2 GB | No | A brochure site with a custom domain |
| Core | $29 | $14.50 | 50 GB | Yes, with basic ecommerce and scheduling | A small store or a business taking bookings |
| Business | $39 | $19.50 | 100 GB | Yes, standard ecommerce | A growing store |
| Business Elite | $159 | $79.50 | Unlimited | Yes, advanced ecommerce and the developer platform | Large catalogs and custom builds |
Two lines of fine print change what you pay. “Displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase”, so Light is a $204 charge on day one, not $17 on a card each month. And the 14-day money-back guarantee “applies to the initial upgrade to a Premium plan”, so it covers your first purchase and not a renewal. Collaborator limits run from 2 on Light to 100 on Business Elite.
What does the free Wix plan cost you?
The free Wix plan costs $0 and puts your site on a wixsite.com address with Wix branding, 500 MB of storage, 1 GB of bandwidth and no way to take payments, according to Wix’s own article “Is Wix really free?” (checked October 14, 2026). A custom domain needs a Premium plan, so a business that wants its own address starts at Light, $17 a month billed yearly.
What the free plan costs a business is the address. A customer who types your name and lands on yourbusiness.wixsite.com/home, under a Wix banner, has learned something about how established you are before reading a word. The free plan is fine for an evening of trying the editor. It is not an address to put on your invoices.
What does Wix cost at renewal?
A Wix plan renews at its full list price. Wix’s help center says a promotional price is “valid for the first year/month ONLY”, that “All subsequent renewals are charged at the original price of the plan (without the discount)”, and that promotions “cannot be used to renew an existing Premium plan” (checked October 14, 2026).
In dollars, Core at the promotional $14.50 is $174 in year one and $348 in year two. Business goes from $234 to $468; Business Elite from $954 to $1,908. All Premium plans renew automatically, and Wix charges yearly plans “up to 3 weeks prior to the plan’s expiration date”, so a plan you meant to cancel in month 12 is billed in month 11. If you plan to leave, turn off auto-renew under Premium Subscriptions before that window.
The domain voucher does not come back either. Wix’s plans page says the one-year free domain “is not included when renewing a plan or upgrading an existing plan.”
What does a Wix domain cost?
A new domain bought from Wix is free for the first year on most yearly Premium plans, through a voucher you redeem within 60 days of purchase; after that you pay Wix’s renewal price for your extension. Wix’s help center says that price “differs depending on several factors”: the extension, your currency, the number of years, privacy protection and local tax (checked October 14, 2026).
Wix does not publish a flat renewal price for a .com, so budget from the registrar market: WebsiteSetup puts a .com at $12 to $25 a year (November 2025) and Ueni gives $10 to $50 for domains in general (September 2026). To see your own figure before it is charged, open Premium Subscriptions, find the domain and click View payment details. You can also register the domain at a registrar in your own name and connect it; Wix’s help center confirms you can “purchase and manage the domain with another provider”. That keeps the address yours whatever happens to the site.
What else do you pay for on Wix?
On top of the plan, a Wix site can add business email, card fees, apps and your own time. Business email on Wix runs on Google Workspace and is priced per user; Google’s list price for Business Starter is $7 a user a month, $84 a year (Google Workspace pricing, October 14, 2026), and Wix shows its own per-user figure at checkout. Wix Payments charges 2.9% plus $0.30 per card payment in the United States.
- Email. One address is $84 a year at Google’s list price; a 4-person office is $336. Wix’s help center notes the per-user price of Workspace plans bought through Wix rose in 2025 and applies from the next renewal.
- Card fees. 2.9% plus $0.30 for credit and debit cards, 3.7% plus $0.30 for American Express, and 2.6% for in-person payments through Wix’s point of sale (Wix Payments: Service Fees, October 14, 2026). Refunds and chargebacks can carry their own fees. On $20,000 of card sales, the standard rate is about $580 plus $0.30 a transaction.
- Apps. Scheduling, reviews, chat and forms beyond the basics come from Wix’s App Market, and many carry their own monthly subscription. Add up the ones you need before you pick a plan.
- Your time. Ueni’s cost guide estimates 1 to 2 weeks to build a site yourself on a website builder (September 2026). That is the first version. Every later change is yours too, and the hours come out of the working week.
What does a Wix website cost over three years?
Three years of Wix costs $612 on Light, $870 to $1,044 on Core, $1,170 to $1,404 on Business and $4,770 to $5,724 on Business Elite, before the domain and email, using the promotional first term at the low end and list prices at the high end (wix.com/plans, October 14, 2026). Three years of FreeWebGuy hosting is $540, after a $0 build.
| Plan | Year one | Years two and three | Three-year total | Still to add |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wix Light | $204 | $408 | $612 | Domain renewals from year two |
| Wix Core | $174 or $348 | $696 | $870 or $1,044 | Domain renewals; email if you add it |
| Wix Business | $234 or $468 | $936 | $1,170 or $1,404 | Domain renewals; email; card fees on sales |
| Wix Business Elite | $954 or $1,908 | $3,816 | $4,770 or $5,724 | Domain renewals; email; card fees on sales |
| FreeWebGuy | $180 | $360 | $540 | A domain if you need one, about $10 to $25 a year |
Two domain renewals add about $24 to $50 at the registrar range above, and one email address adds $252 over three years at Google’s list price. The website cost calculator runs the same arithmetic for your own mix of plan, domain and years.
When is Wix the right choice?
Wix is the right choice when you want to build and change the site yourself, you like the editor, and you have the hours. That describes an online store with hundreds of products, a site whose layout changes every week, and anyone who wants to place every element themselves. Wix’s help center says “the content you build on Wix belongs to you”, while the site itself “needs to be hosted and operated on Wix’s servers” (checked October 14, 2026).
Wix is the better choice when:
- You are selling a large catalog and want the store, inventory and checkout under one roof, with a plan that scales to Business Elite.
- You expect to redesign often and want to do it yourself at 11pm without asking anyone.
- You want the App Market’s add-ons, many of which carry their own monthly bill.
- You want a 14-day money-back window on your first purchase, which Wix offers.
Wix costs more than the plan card when:
- You are paying for a year up front and the promotional price ends at the first renewal.
- You are the designer, the writer and the person who fixes the mobile layout, and your time has a price.
- You may leave one day. The text and images come with you; the site does not.
What does a done-for-you site cost instead?
FreeWebGuy builds the site for $0 and hosts it for $15 a month, billed through SMBcrm, starting only when you approve the preview and go live. The first year is $180 for hosting, plus a domain if you need one at about $10 to $25 a year, paid to the registrar in your name. Three years is $540.
The $15 covers hosting with SSL, your domain connected, a layout built for phones first, SEO basics, a contact form that emails you, the AI builder for your own edits and the platform’s 24/7 chat support; the pricing page lists what is extra. There is no setup fee and no contract; you cancel the plan any month in your SMBcrm account, and FreeWebGuy charges no cancellation fee. We use AI to build fast, and a person checks every first version before you see it. The first version arrives within 48 hours of your brief; bigger sites, or briefs missing key details, take a few days more.
If the Wix bill above looks like a part-time job with a subscription attached, send your brief. It takes about 3 minutes, asks for no card, and you pay nothing until you approve the site.
Questions
Is Wix really free?
The free plan is $0, and Wix's own article says it puts your site on a wixsite.com address with Wix branding, 500 MB of storage, 1 GB of bandwidth and no way to take payments. A business that wants its own domain needs at least the Light plan, $17 a month billed yearly, which is $204 charged up front (wix.com/plans, October 14, 2026).
How much does Wix cost per year?
At list price, Light is $204 a year, Core $348, Business $468 and Business Elite $1,908, each billed yearly and paid in full. Core, Business and Business Elite were showing a 50% first-term promotion on October 14, 2026, which makes the first year $174, $234 and $954; Wix says every later renewal is charged at the original price.
Does Wix charge transaction fees?
Wix Payments charges 2.9% plus $0.30 per credit or debit card payment in the United States, 3.7% plus $0.30 for American Express and 2.6% for in-person payments through its point of sale, per its help center (October 14, 2026). You need the Core plan or higher to accept payments at all; Light does not include it.
What does a Wix domain cost after the first year?
The free domain voucher covers the first year of a domain bought from Wix. After that, Wix's help center says the renewal price depends on the extension, your currency, the term, privacy protection and tax, and that the exact amount shows under Premium Subscriptions in your account. WebsiteSetup puts a .com at $12 to $25 a year at a registrar (November 2025).
Can I move my Wix website to another host?
No. Wix's help center says a Wix site needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers, and that its architecture does not support external hosting. The same page says the content you build on Wix belongs to you, and a domain can be registered and managed with another provider, so your address and your text can leave even though the site cannot.
Is Wix or FreeWebGuy cheaper?
Over one year, Wix Light is $204 and FreeWebGuy hosting is $180, each plus a domain if you need one. Over three years it is $612 against $540. The larger difference is the work: on Wix you design, write and maintain the site; FreeWebGuy builds it for $0 and you approve it before the $15 a month starts. FreeWebGuy versus Wix sets the two side by side.
