Local moves, billed by the hour

What a move costs, line by line.

These are the rates in the tariff we file with the Indiana Department of Revenue. An Indiana mover can't bill a charge that isn't in its tariff, so if a charge isn't on this page, it won't be on your bill.

One hourly number covers the crew and the truck.

What moves like yours usually take

Hours are what we see most often for each size. The totals include the $95 trip charge and nothing else, so stairs, heavy items and packing come on top.

What changes the price

Stairs, long carries and heavy things

These are the only add-ons we charge. We ask about each one when we quote, so none of them should be news on move day.

Stairs

$25 a flight

The first flight at each address is included. Every flight after that is $25, counted at each end.

Long carry

$40 an address

When the truck has to park more than 75 feet from your door. We settle it when we quote, not on move day.

Elevator

No charge

Reserve it for us if your building allows it. Time spent waiting on a shared elevator is clock time.

Upright piano

$175 flat

Uprights and spinets, on top of the hourly rate. Includes a piano board and straps.

Safes and heavy items

$100 and up

Anything over 300 lb is $100, plus $50 for every 100 lb over that. Tell us the weight when you ask for a quote.

Items we don't move

Not offered

Grand pianos, pool tables, hot tubs, propane tanks, gasoline, and paint or other chemicals. Ask and we'll tell you who handles them.

Included and extra

Comes with every move

  • Furniture pads and stretch wrap
  • Taking apart and putting back together beds, tables and cribs
  • Hand trucks, appliance dollies and straps
  • Floor runners and door-jamb pads at both addresses

Deposit and payment

$100 holds your date

  • The deposit comes off your final bill.
  • Change or cancel 72 hours or more before the move and we refund it in full. Inside 72 hours, we keep it.
  • Pay the balance when the move is done, by card, check or cash. The price is the same whichever you use.
  • Tips are up to you. They are never on the bill.

Coverage

If something gets damaged

Every move comes with basic coverage at no charge. It pays by the pound, not by what a thing is worth, so a 60-pound TV is paid at the per-pound amount, not the price of a new TV. If that isn't enough for what you own, ask for added coverage when we quote and we'll put its price on your estimate before move day. Check your homeowner's or renter's policy too, because many don't cover damage done by a moving company. If something does get damaged, show the crew lead before they leave and send us photos. We handle claims ourselves.

Licensed for moves within Indiana

The Indiana Department of Revenue certificates us to move household goods inside the state, and our proof of insurance is on file there. A move that ends outside Indiana needs a federally registered interstate carrier, which we aren't, so we pass on those jobs instead of handing them to another company.
